About
What is ArtsGreensboro?
ArtsGreensboro is a community-supported nonprofit organization that invests in the arts and the creative community. ArtsGreensboro supports access to the arts for all citizens, supports arts integration in our schools, builds capacity for our arts community, and unifies the community through the power of the arts.
Established in 1960, The United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, dba ArtsGreensboro, is the largest dedicated alliance of public and private dollars supporting our local arts economy. Thanks to annual contributions to the ArtsFund, ArtsGreensboro invests in more than sixty-five arts organizations, projects, teachers, and artists by awarding resources through various competitive grant programs and providing strategic leadership, advocacy, collaborative initiatives, marketing, and professional development.
ArtsGreensboro has served as an "incubator" for many emerging arts organizations such as the North Carolina Folk Festival and Casa Azul, now independent nonprofits. With the economic hardship faced by art groups across Guilford County due to COVID-19, ArtsGreensboro was instrumental in obtaining Guilford County CARES Act funding for nonprofit arts organizations and small business relief grants for artists. Also, the State of North Carolina allocated federal CARES Act direct aid to arts councils and arts organizations to mitigate business disruptions caused by COVID-19.
With the recent NEW CREATIVE INVESTMENT initiative, ArtsGreensboro is advocating for American Rescue Plan Act funds from both the City of Greensboro and Guilford County. These resources will be invested in supporting our creative industries, building capacity for art organizations led by and serving people of color, distributing relief and recovery funding, and supporting arts integration opportunities in our schools. What do we believe?
•The arts are meant for everyone; they connect and inspire us.
•The arts are a vital part of our economy; they build healthy and thriving communities to live, work, and play.
•The arts play a vital role in our children's education and development.
