13th, on the 13th: Other Voices Community Dialogue
Thursday, January 13, 2022
Description
Join us for a community discussion about the realities of today's prison system in America as highlighted by the Netflix original documentary 13th.
This film begins at an era in which our nation - as President Obama observes in the film’s opening moments - contains just 5% of the world’s population and 25% of its prisoners. “13th” also reveals an alarming statistic: One out of four African-American males will serve prison time at one point or another in their lives.
After watching the film as a community, we'll come together in a virtual space to share dialogue about the film.
As a part of the virtual dialogues, we’ll include:
- City of Greensboro Human Rights Thrive GSO Program
- Guilford County Reentry Program
- a representative from a company that employs people with criminal records
- an employee of the company who has a successful job history after reentering the workforce
- a Superior Court Judge
