Operation Xcel's Back 2 School Parent Resource Fair & School Supply Give-Away
Saturday, July 27, 2024 (9:00 AM - 2:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
A diverse range of workshops, carefully curated to support families with managing day-to-day obstacles, as
well as training specifically designed to maximize their parenting potential and encourage the well-being of
their child (academically, socially, and emotionally). The fair is open to the public and will offer priority fall
registration to families seeking enrollment in one of our seven (7) after-school program sites—Hairston Middle
School, High Point/Northwood Community Center, Jackson Middle School, Jamestown Middle School,
Southwest Guilford Middle School, and two locations in Stokesdale—Oak Springs Baptist Church and
Stokesdale United Methodist Church.
“It takes parents, educators, and the community coming together to ensure all students eXcel. Not only will
we provide school supplies and a fun day for children, but to equip our parents and caregivers with the tools
they need to build the confidence and wherewithal necessary for encouraging stronger students and lifetime
learners,” stated Charlene Gladney, Operation XCEL’s Executive Director.
For over 16 years, Operation XCEL has remained steadfast in its commitment to challenge implicit bias in
education, and to reduce economic and educational disparities among students from marginalized
communities. A plethora of workshops will be offered on Drug & Alcohol Prevention with Intervention, Reading
& Literacy, the Importance of Self-Care and Wellness, Gun Safety, Suicide Prevention, IEP & 504 Plans and
more.
Vendors will distribute information and items; voter registration will be available, and various fun (safe)
activities will be staffed to keep the children occupied while parents engage in workshops, and caucuses with
vendors to obtain helpful resources.
Lunch, refreshments, and backpacks (stuffed with school supplies) will be provided to workshop participants.
