Barrier1 Systems LLC, a nationally recognized leader in crash-rated vehicle barrier solutions, has officially announced its decision to remain in Guilford County, North Carolina, rejecting competing offers from other Southeastern communities. The company’s expansion will mark a significant investment in the region and reinforce Greensboro’s growing reputation as a hub for advanced manufacturing and homeland security innovation.

As demand for high-performance perimeter security continues to rise globally, Barrier1 Systems found itself outgrowing its current Summerfield facility. After evaluating multiple sites across Virginia and North Carolina – including Danville, Henry County, and Rockingham County—the company chose to return and expand in Greensboro, citing its historic ties to the region, local workforce, and strategic location.

“With roots that run deep in this community, remaining in Guilford County was more than a business decision—it was a reaffirmation of who we are,” said James Parsons, CEO of Barrier1 Systems LLC. “Our customers rely on us to protect some of the world’s most sensitive locations, and the talent and infrastructure here allow us to meet that mission every day. Greensboro is where we want to build our future.”

Barrier1’s expansion will not only bring several additional jobs to the area, but it will also elevate the region’s profile in the fast-growing field of physical security technology. With clients including the US Department of Defense and the City of New Orleans, Barrier1 continues to meet high-stakes security demands across the globe with its US-made, GSA- and ASTM-certified solutions.

“Greensboro fosters an advanced manufacturing ecosystem, making it ideal for Barrier 1 and other companies to thrive,” said Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan. “We applaud the company’s growth and appreciate its continued investment in our local economy.”

Chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners Melvin “Skip” Alston added:
“This is a win for our community on every level—from economic vitality to national security. Barrier1 is not just retaining jobs, they’re creating new ones and investing in a future that benefits all of Guilford County.”

The Guilford County Economic Development Alliance, consisting of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and High Point Economic Development Corporation, worked together with the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, City of Greensboro, Guilford County, Duke Energy, Guilford Technical Community College, Guilford Works, Piedmont Natural Gas, and North Carolina Department of Commerce in securing the Barrier1 Systems LLC investment in Guilford County.
