$860 Million Investment from Ahold Delhaize USA for New Distribution Center Brings 505 New Jobs to Guilford-Burlington
Grocery retail group Ahold Delhaize USA announced its distribution and transportation companies, ADUSA Distribution and ADUSA Transformation, will invest more than $860 million to build a new distribution center in the Guilford County section of the City of Burlington. Over time, the project will create 505 full-time jobs and support distribution infrastructure for the company’s grocery brands, including Food Lion in North Carolina. This investment underscores North Carolina’s growing role as a national hub for logistics, food distribution, and advanced manufacturing.
The planned facility, encompassing more than one million square feet, will be strategically located off Highway 61, offering direct access to major interstates and rail infrastructure. This location positions Ahold Delhaize USA to optimize supply chain efficiency and enhance the experience for Food Lion and its customers. Construction and hiring are expected to ramp up in phases, with the company’s full hiring timeline projected to be completed by December 31, 2033.
Beyond jobs and infrastructure, the campus will showcase proven supply chain automation and sustainability features that improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. It is designed to move products faster, use less energy, and support the company’s long-term growth.
“The investment into this facility is an investment into the customers that trust our brands to nourish their families,” said JJ Fleeman, Chief Executive Officer for Ahold Delhaize USA. “Through the new distribution center, ADUSA Distribution and ADUSA Transportation will expand their capacity to support Food Lion’s growth in the state, along with bringing new jobs. We’re excited to locate this facility in North Carolina and continue to grow our presence in a state where our companies have done business for more than 65 years, and look forward to being part of the region’s continued momentum and success.”
“This announcement represents what’s possible when regional collaboration meets global opportunity,” said Melvin “Skip” Alston, Chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners. “Ahold Delhaize USA’s decision to invest here shows confidence in our people, our infrastructure, and our future. These 505 new jobs will strengthen families, expand opportunity, and reinforce Guilford County’s reputation as one of the best places in America to live and do business.”
“Burlington is proud to welcome Ahold Delhaize USA companies to our growing family of industry partners,” said Jim Butler, Mayor of Burlington. “This investment is more than a facility; it’s a signal to the world that Burlington is prepared to compete for industry and economic development on a large scale. Our city has always been defined by growth, innovation, and community pride, and this project builds directly on that legacy.”
“When companies like Ahold Delhaize USA choose our region, they’re choosing a community that delivers results,” said Sherri Thomas, Chair of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. “This announcement reflects years of teamwork between business, education, and government partners who share one goal: to make Guilford County thrive by helping every business, whether rooted here or newly arrived, find the talent and resources to prosper.”
